For quiet getaways, Philadelphia's gay
crowd flocks to the Bucks County enclave of New Hope. Funky and
artsy--but definitely not "hot" like Provincetown or Fire Island, New
Hope is splendidly set along the leafy banks of the Delaware River about
a 45 minute drive from Philadelphia. Even its hard core fans wouldn't
call it exciting. Some bitchy queens have gone so far as to call it "No
Hope," because the gay doings here are pretty much limited to two main
venues. With only 4 main streets, New Hope is delightfully strollable.
Bring lots of plastic, shopping and dining are the two main activities
here. |
